When I bought my 240z, I had hood pins in the hood and the rear hatch. Both were squeaky and wriggly. Noduse had the killer idea of using spark plug boots as bushings, and it turned out great! If you have noisy hood pins anywhere on your car, grab some old plug boots, slip them on, and use a razor blade to cut them down to size.
This will not work if you drill the holes in your hood too big. The pins need to fit relatively closely to effectively grommet them.
If the pins aren’t big enough to hold the plug boots on tightly, use some epoxy-based glue to hold it on. Make sure your pins are adjusted so they hold the hood down tightly, as well. If there is wiggle room between the cotter pin that secures it and the hood surface, it’ll wriggle itself loose. The plug boots are just there to dampen vertical movement, make sure the hood is pressed down tight on them.
